Salary tax slabs 2025-26
Up to Rs 600,000 is exempt. Then 1% (to 1.2m), Rs 6,000 + 11% (to 2.2m), Rs 116,000 + 23% (to 3.2m), Rs 346,000 + 30% (to 4.1m), and Rs 616,000 + 35% above that. A 9% surcharge applies on tax when taxable income exceeds Rs 10 million.
Does filer vs non-filer change salary tax?
No — the salary income-tax slabs are the same for filers and non-filers. Being a non-filer costs you on other taxes: higher withholding on dividends (30% vs 15%), bank profit, property and vehicle purchases, and cash withdrawals. Filing your return puts you on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL) and cuts those rates.
